TOPIC: Monster Energy Co. v. Cavaliers Hockey Holdings, LLC. Earlier this year, our home ice hockey team, the Cleveland Monsters, successfully defeated the last of the trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings brought against it by energy drink maker, Monster Energy Co., before the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.  Tom Williams and Meg Murray will share with us some of their insights and experiences from the Monsters’ nearly three-year long battle to victory, which included a full trial on the merits.

Thomas M. Williams, Barack Ferrazzano

Tom served as lead counsel to the Cleveland Monsters in the Monster Energy case. He is an internationally recognized litigator of trademark, false advertising, and trade secrets disputes on behalf of a number of the world's largest and most sophisticated brands. He has earned recognition in the World Trademark Review 1000: The World's Leading Trademark Professionals for 5 years in a row, where he has been called a “meticulous litigator” and has been noted for his successful representation of clients in courts and administrative proceedings.

Margaret “Meg” Murray, Cleveland Cavaliers

Meg serves as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the Cleveland Cavaliers.  In this capacity, she also manages the legal affairs for the Cleveland Monsters, a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL).  The team began play in 2007 and since 2015 has served as the top affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Any cancellations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on October 11, 2021. Please email with any cancellation—no fax or telephone cancellations will be honored.
